The Course That Just Gets Better Every Season
The Blackstone River Valley is home to a number of wonderful golf courses. Its dramatic landscape and beautiful terrain offer golfers some of the finest and most challenging golf in New England. In 2010 Shining Rock Golf Club opened at a time when many golf facilities throughout the region were faltering. The course was quickly ranked by Golf Magazine and New England Golf Monthly as one of the finest golf facilities not only in the region but throughout the entire Northeast. The course was ranked no. 4 overall and the “best value” among the 43 courses that debuted nationally that year, thanks to its rugged good looks and its reasonable green fees.
For those of you that have played the “Rock” you know it’s one of the finest new golf facilities built in New England, and it keeps getting better. Designing and building a great golf course with a wonderful clubhouse in a shaky economy is a daunting task. But Niblick Golf Inc. has taken it to a new level year after year since 2010 adding improvements and amenities alongside a quality of service that has become legendary with golfers near and far.
The iconic and namesake Shining Rock is a sheer cliff of granite off of the 16th hole that sits prominently almost 80 feet above the forest floor below and offers breathtaking vistas over 30 miles into Rhode Island and Central Massachusetts. The par 72 course measures 6,735 yards from the championship tees and each hole offers three to five tee boxes. With an elevation change of 255 feet from the highest to the lowest point on the course, golfers are presented with some stunning holes that are talked about for their jaw-dropping and chiseled beauty. All 18 holes have been named and many reflect the area’s rich cultural and industrial heritage with designations such as “Kuttutuck,” “Blackstone,” “Quarry,” “Rockdale,” “Pemaogok,” “Towpath” and “Shining Path.”
Shining Rock is very playable for players at every level of the game. Expansive greens offer great flexibility in pin positions that continually make the course fun to play time after time. Elevation changes and spectacular views throughout the property including those from the clubhouse and the deck outside the Rockdale Grill restaurant have made The Rock a favorite with golfers and local residents. Shining Rock specializes in small groups and outings and with the ability to cater to any special request. Golfers can book tee times 7 days in advance online at www.shiningrock.com or by calling the pro-shop at 508-234-0400. Trust when we say, this course will keep you coming back for more.
